Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Albus is rather tall (I put him at about 6'2") and skinny. Not thin to the point of being frail. I think he's stronger than he looks... but he still looks like a strong wind will knock him over.
2. How old is he?
This is slightly complicated. In Paradisa, he was taken from about September of 1900, which makes him 19. But if we count the year and a half that he spent in Paradisa the first time, plus that year of memories that he has of Paris, then he'll turn 22 on his next birthday.
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
Yes, he carries himself well. Perhaps even a bit arrogantly, as it's a hard habit to kick. But overall, he has good posture, and can be both jaunty and .. glide-y.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
His health isn't bad. He's not an athlete and he doesn't work out or exercise regularly or anything. Headcanonly, he likes to swim, and will do a few laps every now and then? But all in all he's just an average skinny guy, with no illnesses/conditions or disabilities.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Sort of jaunty and glide-y, as aforementioned, but also with purpose.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
He's handsome. He's not too fussed about what he looks like physically, though he does love wearing nice clothes when he can. He can be pretty stylin' when he wants to be.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
He's a pale redhead. No discernible scars, except for that one on his left knee of the London Underground.. haha.
8. Describe his hair: colour, texture, style.
He's a redhead. It's long, (reaching his elbow, or thereabouts) straight, but with a few waves here and there. I guess it's all soft or whatever, haha. He normally wears it in a loose, low ponytail, or lets it hang about his shoulders. Also, he keeps a goatee.
9. What colour are his eyes?
Very bright blue. Sometimes they twinkle!! Haaaaaa.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
His crooked-ass nose. Thanks a lot Aberforth.
11. What are his chief tension centres?
His back.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colours, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
Albus likes clothes! A lot! I think on a day to day basis, he wears normal, well-tailored tunics and robes. I think he especially likes brown, blue, green and purple. When it's time to get dressed up, he loves fancy dress robes in bright colours with lots of embellishments. He probably doesn't have too many, at this point in his life, but he loves them. And yes, I think there's a fair amount of variety in his clothing. He probably owns some Muggle suits as well, whatever was typical menswear in the late 1800s.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
Yes, and yesssss.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
Ummm, he just started working at Hogwarts, in canon. For his job, he dresses pretty much the same as he does in his free time. Though he would of course forgo the more casual robes and tunics and wear stuff befitting a teacher. He wouldn't shy away at all from wearing fancy clothes though. Heh.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Whatever the Wizarding underwear standard was in the late 1800s. :|
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Moderately deep and kind of sonorous. I think he has a very pleasant voice.
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
Medium pitch, but a little on the soft side. Measured, even pace.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
English accent. He grew up in Mould-on-the-Wall, but it isn't specified exactly where in England that is, so I can't get any more specific than 'English accent'. No verbal tics to speak of.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
Fluent in English and Latin, and he knows a fair bit of Greek, French and German.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
He speaks Latin when spellcasting, of course. Otherwise, as the situation calls for it.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
He certainly is a good impromptu speaker, but he never says anything thoughtlessly. He knows the value of thinking before you speak.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Pretty eloquent! If you get him really angry... well, even then he's very much in control of what he says, and if he blurts out anything in anger, it's never to the point of being inarticulate.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
He's a flat-out genius. He adores learning, and eats up knowledge voraciously. I think he's the sort of person who always likes to be thinking about something, so he reads a lot, and is constantly trying to improve himself. So yeah, with regards to book smarts, he's pretty up there. I would hesitate very much to call him street-smart, but he doesn't lack for good old fashioned common sense.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
He takes the time to deliberate in most cases. This is a recent-ish thing; I think when he was younger he would have been more the type to rush into things? But yeah, now he tries to think of the consequences of his actions. Of course, in the right situation, like a duel or something, he is very quick on his feet.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
Hmm. Very logical, I think. He thinks things through, carefully and deeply, so that he can come to a good decision, and when he has made that decision, he'll be sure that he thought of every other avenue. Or at least tried to. However, I would also say that he is very intuitive. He's really good at reading people and reading situations, and will sometimes just sort of come to a likely conclusion at the end of a thread of thought, except that he skips over the actual thread of thought in a Holmesian kind of way. WOW did any of that even make sense... he's both logical and intuitive, okay? And though he can be idealistic at times, he doesn't consider it the best of habits, and is more practical.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
Before the age of eleven, he was home-schooled by this parents, in basic reading, writing, literature, arithmetic and magic. (I'm assuming. He miiiiight have gone to a Muggle primary school.) After the age of eleven, he attended Hogwarts. His education was veeeery much supplemented by the thing that he taught himself, using every single resource available in Hogwarts' library and beyond. He did excellently at school, and did things with a wand no one had ever seen before, et cetera, et cetera.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
He pretty much excels at everything, lmfao, what a godmod. He is particularly good at Transfiguration; it was his best subject at school, and he has written and continues to write papers and essays on it, and the ways it can be used. He's also very good at Potions, Charms, and duelling. Since he started volunteering at the clinic in Paradisa, he'd like to get better at healing charms and spellwork; a the moment he's only about average. And he does plan on exploring and working with his Occlumency/Legilimency in the future.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
Introvert. He is charming and friendly and kind to everyone, but doesn't truly open up to many people.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Even-tempered as fuuuuck. Really, he is very chill, and very calm, and it takes a lot to shake him, and even more for him to show that he's shaken. Again, he's charming and friendly to everyone, but he does get sad every so often. It's something that he keeps to himself. When it comes to academia, learning and achieving things, he's very driven.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
Relaxed, friendly, enthusiastic. In new situations, he always wants to learn and find out more.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
React. Though this can change, depending on the situation.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
Fight. Dem Gryffindors.
11. Describe the character's sense of humour. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humour? Bathroom humour? Pranks?
He enjoys a good joke as much as the next person. I think he can have a very silly sense of humour. "A troll, an elf and a hag walk into a bar..." etc. He likes to tease people, will readily make light of certain situations, and find the humour in little things, once it's called for. He has no time or patience for overly crude or offensive jokes, and pranks aren't really his style or his thing.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
n/a
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
His sister's attack and his father's subsequent actions. His mother's death. Falling in love with Grindelwald, and belatedly seeing him for who he really was. All of these events helped to shape, change and influence the evolution of his stance on Muggles, Muggle-borns, so called 'wizard supremacy' and all the rest. And even though he doesn't remember her in Paradisa, Ariana's very existence is super important to him.
14. What does he fear?
I think he's actually afraid of himself on some level. Or, more accurately, he's afraid of what he can do, having almost gone through with a plan to subjugate Muggles and rule the world with the boy he was hopelessly in love with. He still doesn't quite trust himself, on many levels.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
He knows that he wants to be a teacher, to help and influence young wizards and witches. There will be no more young Albus Dumbledores, if he has anything to say about it. He wants to help and protect Muggles and Muggle-borns, and this stems not only from the fact that it is, you know, the right thing to do, but also because he feels the need to atone for his actions earlier in his life.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
Grindelwald. :( Ariana. :( And he's pretty closeted about his sexuality on the whole, too.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
Albus loved loved loved his parents a great deal, and still loves them and their memory. His relationship with them wasn't absolutely perfect, though. Although he looked up to Percival and gave him all his respect, I think he was initially very disappointed, when Percival lost control like that, and went down the path that would eventually take him out of the family and take him to his death. He loved Kendra no less, and was grateful for how strong and capable she was in taking care of the family after Percival went to Azkaban. It is true, though, that he was resentful of the gap that her death left, making him the head of the family when he had so many dreams, and so many things he wanted to accomplish. Looking back, he's pretty ashamed of how he felt then. He knows that his parents were truly good people.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
Aberforth... fff. Albus, for his own part, bears no real animosity towards Aberforth? Aberforth doesn't impress him very much, and he's not really enamoured of his brother's crudeness or coarseness or his love of goats, but he's still his brother. Nonetheless, they clash a lot, because Albus pisses Aberforth off without even trying, and Aberforth bears him a metric tonne of resentment re: Grindelwald and Ariana's death. They are not the closest of brothers.
Then there's Ariana, of course. At home, he did care for her a great deal, though he selfishly prioritised many things over her. Her death struck him right in the heart, especially when there is the chance that he could have done it himself. In Paradisa, he doesn't remember her, but he knows what happened to her, and he feels incredibly guilty.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
Random maiden-aunt Honoria... he gets on okay with her I guess.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
No, not really. Bathilda Bagshot helped them out after Kendra's death, enough to be considered a kind old aunt or something, but other than that... no one.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
Elphias. They met in first year at Hogwarts, and bonded because they were ostracised and talked about, Albus because of his genius and his family, Elphias because of the dragon-pox. Elphias hero-worshipped him a great deal, and Albus was aware of that, but he didn't take advantage of it? He was grateful for his friendship. He doesn't remember him, in Paradisa.
6. Does he have other close friends?
Sadly, no. He's quite a friendly enough person, but people just don't get close to him easily. A lot of that is on him; he just doesn't allow people to really get to know him. In Paradisa, he has become friendly with a number of people, but none of them have gotten super close.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
Again, he's a very easy-going and friendly individual, and it's easy for him to get along with people, but it's letting them get in close that's the problem.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
Family, I suppose? His only remaining relative is Aberforth, though, and haha.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
Single, never married, not planning on it.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
No.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
First... some random guy at Hogwarts. Maybe like the Head Boy or something, haha. Or one of his dorm mates. Latest was Gellert. What a trainwreck! It wasn't a crush, he was pretty much hopelessly in love with him, and a very small part of Albus still harbours feelings for him. Weh.
If we're taking his last sojourn in Paradisa in account, it would be the Ninth Doctor. Dat intelligence... dem ears... It was a subtle and very quiet crush-- he himself probably wasn't acutely aware of it. But it was there.
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
At the moment, he is FIRMLY not looking for a romantic partner. But some of the things that he is attracted to include: intelligence, wittiness, kindness, and (not that he'd admit it, and not that he's proud of it) power.
But yeah, he thinks that he has proven to himself that he cannot be trusted in love. Albus was so completely blinded by his feelings for Gellert that he almost went through with their horrible plans. He allowed himself to be manipulated. He's pretty afraid of ever being that infatuated with another person. So he is attempting to lead what he hopes will be a completely celibate life. He feels attraction to people from time to time, but he never acts on it.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
No. And he never will have any biological children. He adores kids, though, and they seem to like him a lot as well. He will go on to adopt a couple of them in his ~heart in the future.
LMAO wait no, I forgot about Kendra. His and Gellert's magical baby daughter that Paradisa gave them... HAHAHA. She's a precocious, intelligent, adorable little girl and he loves her a great deal... fabrication of the castle or not. :( He never thought it would have been possible for him to have a child, and he's grateful for the chance to be a Papa.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
Not at this point in his life, no, unless you count Gellert. :<
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale?
Gay. 5/6. And he's pretty much chilling in Narnia like me. hi5 dumblebro. I mean he's not exactly straight-acting or anything, but it definitely isn't something he's open about, and it's not something he will disclose to just any old person. He does come from 1900, and homosexuality is still considered a crime in many parts of the world, including Britain.
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
It's not that important to him, though in the unlikely event that he gets into a relationship, he'd be eventually interested in pursuing it. He's still a virgin; he never got that far with Gellert. I don't think he would ever be very interested in casual sex? For him, it needs to be attached to some kind of emotional connection, and he's not very eager to make any of those right now. For everything else, there's Master Bation.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
WOW UH IDK
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
He was born in 1881, which makes him a Metal Snake in the Chinese Zodiac. Some of it, like the intelligence, guardedness and opportunism fit him (esp. younger him) but in general, no, he doesn't really fit the type. Metal Snakes seem to be a lot more cold and cunning than he actually is. My headcanon birthday for him is August 29th, which makes him a Virgo in the Western Zodiac. I used this site; he fits a lot of the positive attributes, but not really the negative ones.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
Neither. Well, I suppose he might be a bit spiritual? But religion on the whole is no never mind to him, especially considering how the church has treated both wizards and homosexuals. He was raised in a Christian-minded home (I think), and celebrates Christian holidays, and is very much respectful and tolerant of religion in general. But he is far from pious.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
At a younger age, his parents were responsible for instilling in him the basic morals and ethics. They were a kind and tolerant family on the whole. Of course, Ariana's attack, and Percival's retribution did quite a number on that. It was there that young Albus began his quiet resentment of the way wizards were forced to hide from their much weaker counterparts, Muggles, and the way Muggles could still hurt them. And when Gellert came along, that of course just sort of expanded. So, the compromising of his morals has already come and gone; he was prepared to do some pretty bad stuff in the name of the 'greater good'. Since Ariana's death, however, this has changed. He regrets greatly, and feels sick and idiotic about all that he'd tried and wanted to do. Even back then, he had his scruples, and now they've multiplied manifold, not just because he's firmly a good person, but out of his sense of shame and guilt, and his need to atone.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
Tolerant, curious in some cases.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
I can't think of any? Even when he was younger, and was planning to break the Statute of Secrecy, he never bore Muggles any serious animosity, and always stressed the need for moderation and control. Buuuuut, we could still classify it as a prejudice. Was he justified in feeling that way? No, not really, even given his frustration at being forced to hide as wizards. His feelings on the matter have of course changed now.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
At home, they were mostly comfortable, I think? After both his parents were gone, he was the sole breadwinner of the family, but I'm sure there was some gold for them to work with, and he made sufficient money with his essays and the like. In Paradisa he has no need for money at the moment.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
Middle-class/lower middle class. On the Wizarding scale, he's a half-blood. Percival was a pure-blood, and Kendra was Muggle-born.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
In canon, he lives in the family house in Godric's Hollow with Aberforth. It's small, but homey and comfortable. He has his own room, which he keeps tidy enough, but is always in a state of pleasant clutteredness. He makes sure to keep the house in general neat as well. I suppose he would have been about to move into Hogwarts, at his canon point. In Paradisa, he lives alone in his room in the castle, which he has modified to be more spacious, with a potion-making work station and also an office-ish sort of space.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
Books books books. Interesting tidbits and trinkets. Clothes. As said before, he really does enjoy dressing himself nicely when he can afford to. Lol also candy. Dat sweet tooth.
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
He used to be an essayist/writer, on a freelance basis, just to bring in money. He was very good at it; he won some awards and stuff for his ideas. Now, he is a teacher! He adores it! He loves kids, he loves moulding young minds, he loves teaching in general.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
He like reading and learning. Academia is a pretty big part of his life! He also really enjoys learning more about magic in general, both from his world and from others, and mastering his skills. Outside of that, he likes... knitting, chamber music, and ten-pin bowing. And headcanonly, he also enjoys swimming quite a bit. But yeah, he definitely spends most of his free time reading.
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
He eats healthily enough. Probably not three times a day; I can easily see him getting so engrossed in some spell he's trying to perfect or a book that he's reading, that he forgets to eat. He prepares most of his meals himself; very simple stuff, as he's no stellar cook. He does eat out from time to time, when he can't be bothered to cook himself. He enjoys wine and whisky, and I also see him as a cocktail kind of guy. But he doesn't drink very often (maybe two times a week, like a glass of something with his dinner) and when he does, he doesn't drink a lot. He doesn't have any allergies. And again, he has a pretty big sweet tooth; he likes candy and chocolate and stuff like that.
